King Trailers is the largest manufacturer of abnormallow loadertrailers in the UK with customers worldwide. Our Skyking brand is a leader in the UK truck mounted access platform business - not only are we one of the largest UK suppliers, we are also the supplier of the largest truck mounted aerial platform in the UK through our partnership with Wumag Palfinger. And in the market for specialist truck mounted traffic management equipment our Traiload, Safestop and Nissen branded equipment dominate their sector.
Through King's individual operating companies King Trailers Limited and King Highway Products Limited we ensure that its key sales, customer support and design engineering teams are all specialists in their fields. All operating from a 60,000sq ft factory on 5 acres in the centre of the UK each of our individual product teams focus on their chosen market sectors in order to stay ahead of current trends and provide customers with solutions to meet their needs.
History
Established in 1962 by Canadian engineer Vern King, the company grew to be the largest manufacturer of heavy haulage and low loadertrailers in the UK. There are more King lowbed stepframe trailers in the UK than any other make. Because of its unique position in manufacturing low volume specialist product, its engineering team is regularly called upon to build one-off trailers for specialist applications. These include carriage of aircraft engines, aircraft fuselages, submarine components, mobile TV screens, mobile engineering plant as well as numerous military applications and the nuclear industry. Vern King also saw the potential market for telecommunications equipment early on and the company became the major supplier of digger derricks to British Telecom.
After the present owners acquired the Company in 1994 it developed additional product lines that are produced within King Highway Products Limited a business that specialises in selling a range of branded truck equipment for the aerial access and traffic management sectors. It's new Skyking brand soon developed to be the largest supplier of truck mounted access platforms in the UK and it's later partnership with Wumag Palfinger means it now offers a full range of truck mounted access platforms from 10m up to 100m working height.
It's Traiload and Safestop products are the market leaders in the UK 'crash cushion' business and comply with the latest United Kingdom TD49/07 regulations as well as United States NCHRP350 regulations and more products are being added to the range. King Highway Products also manufacture bespoke products and these include mobile scanning equipment for the UK Home Office.
King has won a number of awards for its products and for the Company. In 2003 it was a finalist in the UK business awards and became Leicestershire Business of the Year.
